Spring 2009 saw the musical premiere in New York City at the AMC Great Neck 16 Theatre. And after undergoing nine months of rehearsal, under the direction of Dermot O'Leary (the famed Tony Award-Winning director of Shrek The Musical), Bethany's passion project was given a public life in front of an audience. The performance was a huge success, and Mary Rodgers, Lenz's friend and musical director for the benefit auditioned to be the director for the marketing campaign. Rodgers agreed to direct the entire marketing campaign upon seeing Bethany's passion project. Unfortunately, after years of strong sales and a new director, the musical is canceled.
Bethany, found inspiration in the little town of Charlottesville, Virginia (where she resides) and its history. Anna Woodward, a photographer who served as the lead of the volunteering force for the events filled her with inspiration, as well as, Lenz's good friends, the Donuts, RealDoll, and the sparks family who play a large part in inspiring Bethany with the musical.
Lenz came up with the concept of bethanyjo and the bit characters, she composed the music and patterned in her thoughts, and brought her close friends to help with the lyrics. To bring life to the music, Lenz chose to work with fellow songwriter Allee Isky and former cast member Noah Teal, whose singing talents filled the night for the performers. d2c66b5586
