First of all, I must say I am glad you are one of the few people who I know has given her life to the knowledge of Tamil (and clearly more than just by writing a blog!) Will leave the rest of the post for you to correct. It concerns an important issue in Tamil Nadu, about 10 years back I was among probably thousands of people who signed a petition to stop the Poet Muthuraman’s death sentence, as there were suspicions of a political conspiracy. This was after Rajarajeswara had commuted (at the last minute) one of the two death sentences.
This was partly because of the larger culture of “publicity is bad”, but also because they often did not know how to operate in a situation where they did not support Muthuraman. The support of the “New generation” was critical to the deal, and so they did not know how to operate.
That “New generation” decided to create a link between Tamil and music – to create music in Tamil as if it was a faultless version of Tamil. To those who do not know, in Tamil “dhyana” means the practice of music itself, and it is also a concept for meditation, where the practitioner can meditate to the sounds of the music. This is to be done in a particular way that is beyond my knowledge but has the objective of “open” transcendence (which for me is risky but something I have a lot of interest in). d2c66b5586
