For Windows systems running Windows 10 (version 1709 or earlier), Windows systems will need to be restarted after downloading and installing the security updates. After a restart has finished, Windows 10 systems will need to allow the security updates to install. If the updates fail to install, it is not recommended that the updates be manually installed. If the system fails to restart after allowing the updates, then you should reboot the system and select Repair your PC to re-start.

Note: For Windows systems that were previously configured to install updates without user interaction, users who wish to install the March 2018 security updates must first ensure that additional features are added by the administrator . 

We are currently delivering the March 2018 updates (including security, non-security and cumulative updates) to our customers via Windows Update. This means that you will see the March 2018 update on the Windows Update history page for your device.

We expect to communicate about the removal of the March 2018 Windows security update via Windows Update at a future time. We will post the removal notice to Microsoft Update once it is announced. We recommend customers check with their AV provider on compatibility of their installed AV software product.

Not all devices are receiving these updates yet. Your device may or may not be receiving the March 2018 updates. If your device is not receiving updates, you will not be able to install the March 2018 updates until you’ve rebooted your device.

To install an update, follow the instructions on the device. You may need to restart your device, as your device may not start normally after you download and install an update. If your device is not receiving security updates, you may use the Windows Update Verify tool to check if there is an update available for your version of Windows.

If your device receives the March 2018 updates and you did not follow the above steps, please take the time to update your device. You can download the March 2018 Windows security updates for your device at the Windows Security Update page. Check the security bulletin page for updates to your device.
